A barium meal GIT test is performed to help diagnose various diseases or disorders of the digestive system. In GIT imaging the Gastro-Intestinal Tract (GIT) is checked during fluoroscopy. In this test, Barium is given as a flavored drink that coats the lining of the digestive tract, thus creating accurate pictures of this part of the abdomen.
