Frequently Asked Questions

An X-ray is a medical imaging technique that use a small amount of ionizing radiation to produce images of a body’s internal structures.

Your doctor can order an X-ray for checking fractures (broken bones), dislocated joints, arthritis, abdominal pain, and tooth decay. It can also be used to check your lungs for signs of pneumonia or tuberculosis, enlarged heart, blocked blood vessels, and digestive tract problems.

It usually takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. However, the time taken will depend on the number of body parts being scanned and your mobility. X-rays of people with disabilities and children also take longer.

The amount of radiation you receive from a single x-ray is very low. Radiologists are well trained to keep radiation exposure to a minimum while ensuring optimum diagnostic accuracy.

Female patients who are pregnant, must inform the referring doctor, technologist or radiologist prior to having an x-ray.

Certain X-Rays require fasting. You need to check out the specific test for further preparations. Please notify the radiology department if:
  1. You had a similar X-Ray recently
  2. The patient is a women who is or might be pregnant

X-ray is an easy to perform test and takes very little time to complete, meaning it is particularly useful in emergency diagnosis and treatment.

After collecting the X-ray images, the radialogist may ask you to change back into your regular clothes. Depending on your condition, you may be asked to rest or take up your normal activities. If you received a contrast dye before the X-ray, drink plenty of water to flush the contrast material from your body.
