HOD Installs Digital 3T MRI at Karkardooma Centre

What is a digital 3T MRI?

Digital 3T MRIs are set to usher in a new era in the way medical diagnostic imaging is done. These advanced machines combine unmatched power with incredible precision, making them a game-changer in how complex medical conditions are diagnosed and treated. Recently, House of Diagnostics, installed the uMR 780, an advanced 3T MRI, at its Karkardooma centre. The scanner relies on a strong electromagnetic field of a 3T magnet to construct detailed high-resolution 3D images of the brain, spine, soft tissue of joints, and the inside of bones and blood vessels. Unlike a CT scan, an MRI scanner uses magnetic fields and radio waves and does not involve any ionising radiation.

The uMR 780 MRI scanner offers a multitude of benefits to users. These include:

AI-driven technology for unmatched accuracy

At the core of uMR 780 is Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Compressed Sensing (ACS) technology. This innovative feature optimises image quality and minimises common imaging errors, thus ensuring that the scans are both accurate and reliable. This AI capability gives a unique advantage to the scanner, enabling it to produce high quality images involving challenging areas. For instance, finding subtle abnormalities in small lesions or difficult-to-scan areas, gets much easier with this feature.

Powerful high-density coils for unparalleled image clarity

A key feature of uMR 780 is its 3 Tesla magnet which helps maintain exceptional magnetic field homogeneity, which directly translates to sharper and more detailed images. This level of precision holds importance when it comes to diagnosing complex neurological and cardiovascular conditions where even the slightest variations in tissue structure can be significant. Its powerful magnet also enables faster imaging with no compromise in quality, reducing scan times by around 15-20 minutes. This results in a less stressful and more efficient experience for patients.

Ultra-compressed sensing for high-resolution 3D imaging

The uMR 780 comes with the Ultra Compressed Sensing (uCS) technology, which allows for the compression and reconstruction of data in real-time, delivering highly detailed 3D models of the area being scanned without compromising on speed or accuracy. This helps find even the smallest lesions and abnormalities. The 3D imaging provides a more detailed view of the body’s internal structures, making it easier to know the areas of concern. This technology is particularly useful for imaging brain tissues, joints, soft tissues, and organs, where small lesions or subtle irregularities may be otherwise missed with traditional 2D scans.

In-bore entertainment

The machine features an in-bore audio-visual feature, such as watching a YouTube video, which provides comfort to patients undergoing scans. This is useful for those who experience claustrophobia or anxiety during MRI procedures. In-bore entertainment makes the entire process more relaxing and less stressful. This approach also helps reduce the patient movement during the scan, ensuring clearer and more accurate results.

Wide bore tunnel

Claustrophobic patients can feel anxiety when entering the MRI tunnel. However, uMR 780’s 65cm wide-bore tunnel, paired with bright inner lighting and an advanced ventilation system, ensures a more comfortable experience. The machine’s spacious design significantly reduces the feeling of confinement, making the scan a comfortable experience.

Motion Freeze feature

Its Motion Freeze feature significantly enhances the quality and efficiency of MRI scans, especially for patients who may struggle to remain still during the procedure. It is a useful feature for the elderly, paediatric, and other special patient groups. The feature compensates for any involuntary movements, such as breathing or slight shifts in position, that could otherwise blur images and lead to the need for repeat scans. This innovative feature ensures that all patients, regardless of age or condition, can receive high-quality imaging with minimal discomfort and disruption.
